Welcome to the un-official website of the Metro Atlanta Great Pyrenees Club.

They are know as the "BIG WHITE DOG" and for good reason. They are beautiful graceful dogs that display wonderful tempermants. They are an AKC listed breed, and a favorite at any dog event. They are about the closest thing you can get to having your very own personal Polar Bear! They like to bark away at intruders.

The official  breed standard  is described on our parent organization's website. The Great Pyrenees Club of America describes the dog's physical features and tempermant. I suggest that you read the information on their website and come back here to read more about what I love about these dogs.

Ok, so you read all of that information and you want to know more about these lovable dogs. One of the most important things to remember about this breed is that a Great Pyrenees was bred to GUARD livestock. Their mission in life is to protect their herd from predators. They want to do this on a daily basis. They can be trained to make wonderful pets, as long as you understand that they are going to need to protect you. If they sleep in the house, they are going to sleep by the door. If they stay outside, they are going to patrol the fence and bark into the night at intruders that may or may not exist.  All of these behaiviors can be trained away to a degree, but it may take some time.

The most important part of our club is the rescue operation. We have quite a few dogs in our care at the moment and want to find all of these guys a good permanent home. You can view the dogs that we have up for adoption at our petfinder site or at www.pyrrescuega.com
